This collection shows the underbelly of Manchester, the unseen moments of hidden spaces and glimpses of leftover industrialism that was once the pride of the City. These scenes feel private and intimate, as though the viewer has stumbled across a moment of quiet reflection amongst a bustling metropolis. Pointon depicts wheelie bins with as much care and attention as he does grand facades. The painting’s earthy colour palette of neutral tones is incredibly atmospheric, the moisture in the air left over from a downpour is practically tangible - as if you can feel the wet pavements underfoot. Anyone connected to Manchester will be well aware of the temperamental weather. Pointon has perfectly chronicled the dichotomy of the backstreets and high streets of the City.
