The variety of subject matters represented in Carvell’s work reflects an on-going drive to explore and develop as an Artist, although they are perhaps best known for their still life pieces. Many resonate emotive responses, which reveal deep connections to a particular subject; the fundamentals of expressive drawing and considered use of colour being central to their execution. Pastel gives Carvell the freedom and flexibility to approach each subject in a particular way; to translate energy, thought and emotion into something visual.
