James Bland & Ashraf Hanna
Contrast & Connection 23 Apr - 14 May 2022 A joint exhibition of works by James Bland and Ashraf Hanna; two internationally acclaimed artists who work in different mediums, who have never met and live in different parts of the country, despite these differences, we have found common ground.
The artists’ work embodies the same core structures. Surfaces appear to focus on woven textures roughened by brushstrokes and tools- colours follow the same tonal hues of strong low tones and pops of electrifying highlights. Every grey is balanced with a contrasting colour. There is a distinct dialogue between the contrasting fluid and hard edges of Hanna’s vessels and the curves and angular marks in Bland’s portraits. In Bloom
Flowers, Nature, and Contemporary Painting 23 Apr - 1 Jun 2020 Contemporary Six is delighted to present the mixed online exhibition In Bloom featuring paintings by a number of artists. We are offering free delivery for all paintings purchased in the exhibition.* More information to follow.
Each artist will display several works which take the beauty of flowers as their subject. Whether sunflowers or waterlilies, peonies or poppies, flowers have been an eternal fascination of painters throughout the ages. The flower-vase still life was immortalised in western art history with the Dutch painters of the 17th Century, but contemporary painters, too, have found new ways to reinvigorate the simple flower — poised as it is between vulnerability and flamboyance. In this exhibition, Contemporary Six unfurls the flower in contemporary painting to reveal new, innovative ways of depicting its organic beauty. Read more

Arthur Neal NEAC
A Showcase of New Work 1 - 14 Feb 2020 From Saturday 1 February, we are delighted to host a new selection of paintings by Arthur Neal (of the New English Art Club). Neal's paintings straddle the figurative as well as the abstract, but always the objective is balance. The artist is renowned for his sophisticated use of colour and his eye for complex composition — he is a painter held in the very highest of esteem by his contemporaries and collectors alike. For this reason, it takes a little good fortune to have visited the Gallery over the past two years and to have viewed one of his paintings in the flesh, but we can assure you that this time, they will stay hung on our walls a little longer than usual!
The showcase will run from Saturday 1 February until 14 February. Please join us at the Preview Day from 12pm. If you can attend the Preview, please RSVP via email or telephone.
View the works on our exhibition page — which will be updated over the coming weeks. Read more -

Richard Clare
A Solo Exhibition 26 Oct - 17 Nov 2019 Award-winning landscape artist Richard Clare is known for his colourful and dynamic paintings of urban Manchester, northern England, Italy, and France. Many paintings are created from memory or sketches, using colours not normally associated with the subject. “After seeing my paintings", said the artist "people start to see the landscape with a fresh perspective”. This fresh perspective may result from the astonishing fact that the artist is colourblind, and through his unique sensibilities creates in his paintings his very own "world of colour". Read more -

As a thank you to all of our clients, enthusiasts, and visitors, join us for our Winter Gathering 18/19 at 11am on Sunday 9 December — for mince pies, mulled wine, and a joint exhibition of brand new work by many of our Gallery-artists.
If you are looking for a Christmas gift, you can pick up a hand-crafted print by Jean Hobson, Rob Wilson, Chris Cyprus, or Ann Lewis; or if you are looking for something smaller, there will also be a range of artist's books by Chris Cyprus, Michael Ashcroft, or Jan Gardner.
You'll also be able to catch some quite lovely paintings by brand new Gallery-artists Richard Cook and Liam Spencer — and what Christmas show would be complete without a little carol-singing? (which you can do in your own time, thanks).

A Welsh Connection
Anne Aspinall's Solo Exhibition 12 - 31 May 2018 When Manchester-born artist Anne Aspinall used to visit her aunt in Harlech as a child, she didn't realise that one day she would become widely known for her oil paintings of the coastal North Wales landscape. After 50 years as an artist, working across different media and subject matters, Anne is continually drawn back to this beautiful part of the country to capture the majesty of the landscape and scenery.
Contemporary Six owner Alex Reuben said: 'Anne is one of the most technically gifted painters in the North West, and this exhibition is an opportunity to see many of her beautiful works. Her landscapes appeal to all kinds of art-lovers, and they will make you love the Welsh coast and countryside as much as she does'.
A Welsh Connection takes place at Contemporary Six, located in Central Manchester, on Princess Street. It begins with a preview afternoon on Saturday May 12, from 1-5pm, in which Anne will be available to chat with visitors. The exhibition will run until May 31.
