Lizzie Lilley is a Scottish contemporary artist based in Aberdeen, graduating from Gray’s School of Art in 2021 and winning the RGU Arts and Heritage Stand Out Work and Purchase Award 2021. Lilley was also awarded the RSA John Kinross scholarship to travel to Florence which she is completing in Autumn 2022 and was recently announced as the Fleming Collection’s Emerging Scottish Artist of the Year in partnership with Scotland House, London. Her work is concerned with the slow abstraction of photographic imagery, with a
focus on historical events of social or cultural significance. Images are distilled into shape and form through instinctive interrogation, with coloured pencil studies forming an important part of her process. The resulting work captures a sense of the erratic tension or calm of the source image, retaining something of its essence whilst becoming something distinct.
