Each artist will display several works which take the beauty of flowers as their subject. Whether sunflowers or waterlilies, peonies or poppies, flowers have been an eternal fascination of painters throughout the ages. The flower-vase still life was immortalised in western art history with the Dutch painters of the 17th Century, but contemporary painters, too, have found new ways to reinvigorate the simple flower — poised as it is between vulnerability and flamboyance. In this exhibition, Contemporary Six unfurls the flower in contemporary painting to reveal new, innovative ways of depicting its organic beauty. -
Arthur Neal NEAC
A Showcase of New Work 1 - 14 Feb 2020From Saturday 1 February, we are delighted to host a new selection of paintings by Arthur Neal (of the New English Art Club). Neal's paintings straddle the figurative as well as the abstract, but always the objective is balance. The artist is renowned for his sophisticated use of colour and his eye for complex composition — he is a painter held in the very highest of esteem by his contemporaries and collectors alike. For this reason, it takes a little good fortune to have visited the Gallery over the past two years and to have viewed one of his paintings in the flesh, but we can assure you that this time, they will stay hung on our walls a little longer than usual!Read more
The showcase will run from Saturday 1 February until 14 February. Please join us at the Preview Day from 12pm. If you can attend the Preview, please RSVP via email or telephone.
View the works on our exhibition page — which will be updated over the coming weeks.
